SOL — Spirit of Leadership — was founded on a simple conviction: meaningful progress begins with developing the capacity of people.
We believe leadership is more than a position, title or set of techniques. It begins with the development of the person, and finds expression in how we relate, contribute and serve.
WHAT IS THE “SPIRIT” OF LEADERSHIP?
By the spirit of leadership, we mean what animates leadership from within — the qualities of character and purpose that shape the choices we make, the principles we act upon, how we relate to others, and what we ultimately choose to serve.
Leadership therefore begins before the position, the title or the technique. It begins with the human being — with the continuing development of who we are and the capacities we bring to our relationships, our work and our contribution to others.

A journey shaped by people, experience and a continuing search for what enables meaningful growth
The thinking behind SOL did not begin with a leadership model.
It developed over decades of working with people across different cultures, organizations and communities — and observing what helps individuals and groups grow, contribute and perform at their best.
From an early career navigating ships across the world, through work in human resources, organizational development, leadership and community development, one insight became increasingly clear: lasting progress depends not only on systems, strategies or structures, but on the capacities of the people within them.
That conviction eventually became Spirit of Leadership — SOL International: a practice dedicated to developing leadership from the inside out, strengthening people and the environments in which they work and serve.
